“I will praise you, LORD, with all my heart!” – Psalm 138:1

Welcome, I am Katherine Johnston, a Christian writer, Apraxia/Autism mom, sharing hope for life’s challenges through essays, short stories, novels, and more!

Love God. Be kind to others – is my faith statement in a nutshell.

For the rest, my husband and I live in Birmingham, Alabama. We have three sons, and a daughter-in-law. Our youngest son has been diagnosed with Apraxia and Autism.

Apraxia is a rare speech disorder that involves motor planning and not the mechanics of speech. Basically an individual with Apraxia can’t say what they want to say when they want to say it. Not that a speech disorder slows our little guy down from getting his messages across. Speech therapy has brought him a long way verbally, and sign language gives him great visual cues when motor processing won’t let him say what he wants to say when he wants to say it.

Autism is a developmental disorder, highly individualized. If you’ve seen a child with Autism, you’ve only seen that’s child’s version of Autism. That’s why it’s called Autism Spectrum. Yes, it is a puzzle, but it is also many other things, some of them wonderful.

No one expects Autism to touch their lives, but when it does it’s not the end of the world,…it’s the beginning of a new universe.

Our little guy is amazing! Even though our youngest son experiences the world in a different way, he has so much to teach us about life, love, and unconditional acceptance.

With such inspiration I strive through my writing to seek excellence, pursue peace, and find faith for life’s challenges!
