Do You See?

Do you see what I see?

“Ahhh,…a bunch of shirts,” you might reply, but there is always more to a story than what meets the eye.

My father-in-law lost his battle with cancer this past Thursday. These were his shirts, an evocative symbol of his hard working life.

Very few “town” shirts crowd the closet, most are work shirts limp with use. The favorites are faded and mended and stained with sweat and toil, but never ever discarded.

The colors are a little drab, but they never looked drab on the owner! One-of-a-kind individual, his personality transcended clothing. Perhaps that’s why I noticed these shirts so particularly when I was helping to clean this past Thursday.

I saw the shirts, and immediately equated them with my father-in-law’s hard working life. He is gone, but they remain,…like us.

Life goes on,… some of these shirts will be passed on to others, some will find new life in the form of a quilt,…and a few, no doubt will be tucked back into a closet,…speaking in eloquent silence the life of a hard working husband and father,…gone but never forgotten.

One of the advantages of growing older is that there are life lessons that have become ingrained such as,…Never Assume. Always try to see beyond first perceptions,…there is always more to a matter,…especially with people.

People are tender, and too often the harder a person seems on the outside,…the more they are hurting on the inside! Kindness is always appropriate for you never know what silently desperate battles a person may be contending with!

Our world needs more kindness, more gentleness,…life is precious and tomorrow is not guaranteed.

Thankfully God’s love is guaranteed!

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

My father-in-law is enjoying his new life in heaven,…every tear is gone, health restored for eternity,…and we will miss him here on earth, but best news of all is that we’ll see him again! Do you see? Death is not the end!

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

God bless!
