Now that’s a BIG flag!
Can you tell the flag is at least two stories high?
It’s ginormous, but no matter how large or small, we always try to point out American flags to our little guy so he can learn the truths of our country’s history.
One of the greatest truths is that freedom is NOT free.
Since 1776 countless men and women have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms, and that sacrifice deserves to be respected, and honored.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. – Preamble Declaration of Independence
Just this past weekend our little guy had a chance to witness our country’s freedoms in action during a firework celebration.
Freedom of Religion: Without fear, speakers freely prayed, preached the word of God, and worshiped in the name of Christ Jesus.
Freedom of Speech: Applies to the above, as we freely prayed for one another and our country.
Freedom of Free Press: The way we found out about this community event was through the free press.
Freedom To Peaceably Assemble: No protests, here. Just friends and neighbors gathered together in peaceful assembly to celebrate our country’s 242nd birthday.
Freedom To Petition The Government For Redress Of Grievances: No need for this measure. This was a community event, and everyone had a great time, but it’s nice to know that we are afforded this liberty should the need ever arise.
Our country is not perfect, no country is, but we are so grateful to live in the United States of America where we have the freedom to peacefully assemble on a hot July evening, to eat shaved ice and BBQ, to jump in bounce houses, play Frisbee, toss a football, visit with friends, family and neighbors, to worship together, pray together, and sing, without fear, without dread, without oppression, “God Bless America,…land that I love,…stand beside her,…and guide her,…through the night with the light from above,…from the mountains, to the prairies, to the ocean,…white with foam,…GOD BLESS AMERICA,…my home sweet home,…God bless America,…my home sweet home,” – to sit in lawn chairs and listen to the laughter of children, to catch fireflies as the twilight deepens,…and when it’s finally dark enough,…enjoy the spectacle of fireworks bursting overhead,…knowing:

Of course it would be impossible for me to close out this blog post without mentioning THE most important freedom of all,…and one that is available to everyone,…no matter what nationality or creed. The freedom of Salvation – won on the cross of Calvary!
